The vision of Friends of Health Initiative (FHI) is to create a society where every woman and girl alongside youth and children can live free from violence, discrimination, and inequality, and where all individuals, regardless of sex, origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or social status, enjoy equitable access to opportunities for personal growth, health, and well-being.
We envision resilient communities where girls and women are empowered to lead, participate, and thrive through education, health, and sustainable development.
The mission of Friends of Health Initiative (FHI) is to promote and protect the rights, health, and empowerment of women and girls while improving the overall well-being of underserved populations. Through education, advocacy, research, and community-driven interventions, FHI works to eliminate gender-based violence, advance gender equality, and create inclusive environments where girls and women can reach their full potential.
Background
Founded in 2020 in the heart of rural Rulindo District, Friends of Health Initiative (FHI) has emerged as a passionate advocate for the rights and well-being of women and girls. At FHI, we believe in a society where every woman, girl, youth, and child can live free from violence, discrimination, and inequality, with equal opportunities to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.
Our mission is to protect and promote the rights and health of women and girls, and we bring this vision to life through education, advocacy, research, and community-led programs. From addressing gender-based violence to nurturing leadership skills, our initiatives empower women and girls to become confident, resilient, and active change-makers.
FHI’s programs span a wide range of focus areas: gender empowerment and protection, health and well-being, sustainable livelihoods, quality education and skills development, and using sport as a tool for social impact. Over the years, we have become a trusted voice for rural communities, fostering inclusive spaces where women and girls are not just beneficiaries, but leaders, innovators, and agents of lasting change.
